The purpose of Wood Badge is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.

To accomplish this, Wood Badge combines the best traditions and experiences of the Boy Scouts of America with the leadership skill training used by successful organizations throughout the world.

This collegiate level course uses the latest teachings of John Maxwell, Marshall Goldsmith, Stephen Covey, Ken Blanchard, Bruce Tuckman, Mary Ann Jensen, and other subject experts.

Samples of the session topics include; Stages of Team Development,  Project Planning, Leading Change, Optimizing Diverse Talent, Communicating Effectively, Interpersonal Savvy, Coaching and Mentoring.

Included in the course are experiential demonstrations of Unit Meetings, monthly Patrol Leader Council meetings, celebration dinners, adventures and events.

This advanced training is presented in two parts:
1. Interactive, hands on learning experience  presented over two weekends.
2. Application phase of several months where leaders apply the skills to their Scouting responsibilities.

Leaders who successfully complete both parts of the training are recognized with the Wood Badge beads, woggle slide, and neckerchief.
