What is a Council High Adventure Program
The Boy Scouts of America provides a rich program that offers much to the youth of today. Each Scout unit provides many opportunities for its members to experience the outdoors. These opportunities vary from day outings at local parks to multi-day backpacking experiences. As the youth participate in these outings they gain more confidence and hunger for something more challenging.
Recognizing this need, the Boy Scouts of America established a series of high adventure bases located around the United States. With names like Philmont and Northern Tier, these bases are famous for their challenges and programs. These high adventure bases offer a wonderful program that is sure to leave memories that last a lifetime.
Rock Climbing Information & TrainingIn 1973 Rock Climbing and Rappelling was first started in Venture County Council at Camp Three Falls. This was the first BSA summer camp to offer Rock Climbing and Rappelling as a new program element in Scouting. This was 22 years before it was even considered to become a merit badge at Philmont. Three Falls now has a new 57 foot Climbing tower (K-3) that was built in the spring of 2003.
Ventura County Council's Climbing committee has provided information to assist you in planning an exciting and safe climbing event. Please read the below pages to learn more about Climbing / Rappelling rules and regulations. This will to help your unit get into climbing and your Scouts earning the Climbing merit badge.
