2015 World Scout Jamboree in Kirara-hama, Japan

In the spirit of providing the best service possible to our units, effective July 1st, the Executive Board of the Ventura County Council, Boy Scouts of America has unanimously voted to consolidate its District count from six down to four.

The Camarillo District (serving the communities of Camarillo and Somis) & the Channel Islands District (serving the communities of Oxnard, Port Hueneme and El Rio) have now merged to become the Channel Islands District.

Additionally, the Matilija District (serving Ventura, Ojai and Oak View) & Santa Paula/Fillmore District (serving the communities of Santa Paula, Fillmore and Piru) have merged to become the Sespe District.

We thank you for your understanding of this strategic decision to better serve our constituents.

NEW  Tour and Activity Plan Policy

(as of 5/1/2014)

The Ventura County Council, Boy Scouts of America will require  the submission of a Tour and Activity Plan for the following Scouting activities:

Trips outside of Ventura County proper; or When conducting any of the following activities:

  • Overnight outings
  • High Adventure Activities Including
  • Aquatics activities (swimming, boating, floating, scuba, etc.)
  • Climbing and rappelling
  • Orientation flights (process flying plan)
  • Shooting sports
  • Any activities involving motorized vehicles as part of the program (snowmobiles, boating, all-terrain vehicles, etc.)

Regardless, the tour and activity plan is an excellent tool that should be included in preparation for all activities, even those not requiring it. It guides a tour leader through itineraries, travel arrangements, two-deep leadership, supervision qualifications, and transportation.

The tour and activity plan is also a planning tool for best practices to be prepared for safe and fun adventure. Completing the plan may not address all possible challenges, but it can help ensure that appropriate planning has occured, that qualified and trained leadership is in place, and that the right equipment is available for the adventure.

In addition, the plan helps to organize safe and appropriate transportation to and from an event, and defines driver qualifications and minimum limits of insurance coverage for drivers and vehicles used to transport participants.

Please complete and submit this plan at least 14 days in advance to ensure your council has enough time to review the plan and assist as necessary.
